Hervey Bay is a huge expanse of water that extends north from Urangan on the Queensland coast mainland, to Moon Point, which is located at the northern end of Fraser Island. Fraser Guided Fishing also includes Platypus Bay and Rooney’s Point in our description of Hervey Bay waters.
This amazing body of water is where much of the manic pelagic mayhem is encountered! On our guided trips, you will often experience fishing to surface feeding predators here like mackerel and tuna in feeding frenzies.
There are also options to fish inshore reefs in the area, for species like snapper, as well as predatory pelagics like mackerel and trevally that also hang around the reef structure.
True blue-water species like large tuna, marlin and kingfish are often caught on the northern Fraser Island Flats. There's not mot many places where you have the chance to mix it with these premier sports fishing species in relatively shallow waters!
At times we travel over 100km per day to fish these areas, so heading deep into the bay is strictly a full day option to ensure plenty of fishing time, as well as time to move around this huge aquatic play-ground.
